Let the Oscar Ceremony Fashion Display Start: 2010 Oscar Winner Predictions
Find the 2010 list of best-dressed and worst-dressed: 2010 Oscar Ceremony Knockoff, Golden Globes and the List of Fashion Winners and Losers
Best Supporting Actor:
Christopher Waltz, “Inglorious Basterds”
This one is pretty obvious to me (and the Oscar voters). Christopher Waltz gave a mesmerizing performance in Inglorious Basterds and is the clear-cut favorite. This movie is worth watching for so many reasons, but sitting atop them all, with a creepy German smile, is Mr. Waltz.
Best Supporting Actress:
Mo’Nique, “Precious”
Now this was a heartwarming and happy movie for the entire family to enjoy. NOT. (Not jokes are still funny, right?). Anyway, Mo’nique gave a scary and moving performance as Precious’ abusive mother in this drama about an illiterate girl’s struggles at home and at school.
Best Actor: Jeff Bridges, “Crazy Heart”
Now many people have not seen this, but Bridges’ deserves this one big time. He plays an alcoholic washed up musician who tries to finally get his life together on the road. While I’m partial to Mr. George Clooney (Up in the Air) in all things, I think the Academy is going to give this one to Jeff for his years of work.
Best Actress: Sandra Bullock, “The Blind Side”
This category is up for grabs. Helen Mirren gave a solid performance in “The Last Station” as Tolstoy’s wife, and Meryl Streep did a spot-on Julia Child in “Julie and Julia.” I’m giving it to Sandra Bullock, not because she deserves it, but because I just see this happening. And that movie was so damn touching.
Best Animated Movie: “Up”
Ok there’s no question here. Up’s opening left not a dry eye in the audience and deserves this award hands down. Oh and the rest of the movie was hilarious. Pixar will take this again.
Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow, “The Hurt Locker”
I’m going with Bigelow, and I’m pretty confident that she will steal this prize away from her ex-husband James Cameron. She presented a wonderfully directed film, and there’s never been a more deserving female director. And the first female director to win this award will be Bigelow, giving us a total guy movie. Who would’ve thought? If you haven’t seen “The Hurt Locker,” rent it pronto and be prepared for some suspense.
Best Picture: “The Hurt Locker”
Going off of that note, I’m going to give the top prize to “The Hurt Locker.” An intense and well-shot thrill ride from start to finish, this movie brought the goods. This category is tricky given the fact that there are TEN nominees, and because of the ranking system, a dark horse may take this award (I’m looking at you, Inglorious Basterds). However, James Cameron is a sneaky, sneaky man, and may get this award with the $700 million-and-counting powerhouse, “Avatar.”
Best Cinematography: “Avatar”
Because I didn’t give it best picture, this amazingly beautiful movie has got to win on cinematography. Some of those shots of Pandora still make me shudder with disappointment that I’ll never get to go to Pandora.
Best Song: “The Weary Kind (Theme from Crazy Heart)”
This movie had such good music, it’s just gotta beat out that crap from “The Princess and the Frog.”
Best Foreign Language Film: The White Ribbon
This German film is getting a lot of praise for its spectacular cinematography and eerie black-and-white atmosphere. On the other hand, “Un Prophete” is one of the best movies of the year, but it came out a bit late to get a lot of Oscar publicity. So i’m going with the favorite.
Best Original Screenplay: “Inglourious Basterds”
Ok I know the favorite for this award will be The Hurt Locker, and it may very well win. But Quentin Tarantino deserves something for this hilarious and beautifully-crafted screenplay, and he deserves this award.
Best Adapted Screenplay: “Up in the Air”
Jason Reitman is the man, and this screenplay was hysterical and moving. This one’s his.
Best Documentary: “The Cove”
This has won all the major awards, and it should take this one as well, barring an upset from “Food, Inc.”
And now for the “less important” awards. Basically the one’s you wouldn’t know anything about. To be honest, my guess is probably only slightly better than yours. I’ll tell you when I’m pretty sure.
Best Sound Editing: “Inglourious Basterds”
Best Sound Mixing: “The Hurt Locker” Flat out guess.
Best Costume Design: “Coco Before Chanel” - This movie is practically about costumes.
Best Documentary Short: “Rabbit a la Berlin” Picked the coolest name
Best Animated Short: “French Roast” No clue
Best Live Action Short: “Instead of Abracadabra” Has anyone seen these short films?
Best Original Score: “Avatar” Pick your favorite here, I really don’t know what’s going to win. This or “Up” is my bet.
Best Art Direction: “Avatar” This WILL win.
Best Film Editing: “The Hurt Locker”
Best Makeup: “Star Trek” maybe.
Best Visual Effects: “Avatar” takes this one as well.
